This was a breaking news story on which myself and a colleague gather together all the tribute to Glenn Hoddle following his collapse following an appearance on TV. We collated the tweets and after the Leicester helicopter crash it became the back page splash.

ENGLAND hero Alan Shearer led the football world in praying for Glenn Hoddle.

The former England player and manager, 61 yesterday, was fighting for his life in hospital last night after collapsing at BT Sport's studio.

Shearer, skipper under the Three Lions manager, said: "Wishing my old boss Glenn Hoddle a very, very speedy recovery. Thinking of you."

Former team-mates also sent messages of support. Ex-Spurs captain Gary Mabbutt told The Sun:

"Glenn is one of the greatest players I played with. It's awful to hear the news.

"We are thinking of him and hoping he pulls through."

England team-mate Gary Lineker added: "Hugely worrying news about the collapse. Thoughts are with him and his family. Come on Glenn."

Tottenham hero Ossie Ardiles tweeted: "Just heard about Glenn. Our thoughts and prayers with him and his family and friends."

Midfield colleague Micky Hazard said: "OMG, just seen the news about my hero. Come on Ghod get those magic feet moving, the football world is with you every step of the way."

England's Twitter account posted a message from current manager Gareth Southgate which read: "My thoughts and prayers are with Glenn and those closest to him following today's distressing

news.

"Everybody across the game is right behind one of English football's greats and we are willing him to pull through."

Three Lions captain Harry Kane wrote: "Thoughts are with Glenn. Get well soon."

Spurs pal Chris Waddle, who enjoyed pop chart success with Hoddle, said: "Get well Glenn our thoughts are with you."

Tottenham tweeted: "Everybody sends their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery."

Arsenal's Ian Wright said of his ex-England boss: "Hang in Gaffer."

Hoddle's former clubs Chelsea and Swindon sent their support, while BT Sport colleagues rallied round after his sudden collapse.

Presenter Mark Pougatch said: "All our thoughts are with Glenn Hoddle and his family."

Midfielder Hoddle was capped 53 times by England and bossed the Three Lions at the 1998 World Cup.

Arsene Wenger, his manager at Monaco in the late 80s, said: "He is the most skilful player I have ever worked with.

"I couldn't understand why he hadn't been appreciated in England. Perhaps he was a star in the wrong period, years ahead of his time."

Brighton manager Chris Hughton, twice an FA Cup winner with Spurs alongside Hoddle, said: "My thoughts and prayers go to him.

"Glenn is a friend, I have known him since my Spurs youth days. He was the star player that we all looked up to and could never get near.

"He's got a strong character and I'm sure he'll battle through it."

Southampton manager Mark Hughes was signed by Hoddle when he was boss at Chelsea.

He said: "It's a huge shock and I know the whole football world will be wishing him well."

Leicester manager Claude Puel, who was a team-mate of Hoddle's at Monaco, added: "I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery."

Hoddle worked as an ITV pundit for England matches and has been a popular face at BT Sport since 2015.
